KoBo Toolbox

KoBo Toolbox is an easy to use software suite for population surveys and data visualization.

KoBo Toolbox was originally developed by a team of field researchers to conduct large social science surveys in countries affected by war. Because it has been developed for use in difficult environments, KoBo Toolbox easily lends itself for use anywhere population surveys are needed. KoBo Toolbox has been used in surveys ranging from environmental studies to monitoring and evaluation of development projects.

What sets KoBo Toolbox apart is its ease of use that allows for minimal training, robust dependability and full suite of tools. KoBo Toolbox includes:

  • KoBoForm (Windows, Linux and Cloud)
An easy to use digital form builder. Create digital forms without programming skills with the ability to constrain entries and build in skipping patterns and data validation. KoBoForm also supports cascading questions and branching, making questionnaires with complex skip patterns easier to develop.
  • KoboCollect (Android)
An easy to train, easy to use, secure mobile phone data collection application with different interfaces for users and administrators.
  • KoboSync (Windows, Linux and Cloud)
A synchronization tool for data aggregation of survey results. As with KoBoForm, KoBoSync can be run on a local computer or on an Internet connected server.
  • KoboMap (Cloud)
An easy to use, online method for visualizing data into Google maps. Examples of KoBoMap include the UC Berkeley Human Rights Center reports on Liberia and Uganda, and the International Center for Transitional Justice report on Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Each of the Kobo tools can be used alone, together or in combination with outside applications. The system is compatible with other form builders and data collection apps.

KoBo Toolbox is developed by a team of experienced researchers now based at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. For more information visit the KoBo Toolbox website.
